01 · The overview

What a luxury kitchen remodel
actually involves.

Scope and decisions

A luxury kitchen remodel at the level ESRL builds is rarely just a kitchen project. It is usually the structural and architectural reorganization of the entire main floor, with the kitchen as the central design moment. Removing the wall between kitchen and great room. Raising the ceiling into the existing roof structure. Adding hand-built steel-frame windows for daylight. Integrating Sub-Zero column refrigeration, a Wolf range with custom hood, Miele dishwashers, and a separate butler's pantry behind a hidden door.

The scope decisions made at the front of the project drive the budget, the schedule, and the result. The right pre-construction conversation maps the structural changes, the appliance package, the cabinet shop, the stone and tile selections, and the lighting design into a single coherent plan, with line-item budget transparency. Then the project executes against that plan.

What separates a luxury kitchen remodel from a high-end kitchen refresh is the structural and architectural ambition. Long clear spans, vaulted ceilings, large openings, integrated steel framing, and the level of finish detailing that survives 25 years of family use. ESRL is set up for that level of scope, with in-house structural engineering, principal-led oversight, and a vetted network of custom cabinet shops, stone fabricators, and tile installers.

Typical luxury kitchen scope

Protection, dust containment, abatement coordination if applicable, controlled removal of cabinetry, finishes, and any structural elements being replaced.

Structural changes

Steel beams or moment frames for wall removals, glulam or steel headers at new openings, ceiling raising into existing roof structure where feasible.

MEP rework

Electrical service upgrade where required, dedicated circuits for premium appliances, gas line resize for range, low-voltage rough-in, HVAC supply adjustments.

Plumbing

Full repipe of kitchen, prep sink, pot filler, undercounter water filtration, hot water on demand, ice maker and water lines for Sub-Zero.

Custom cabinetry

Architectural-grade cabinetry from a vetted custom shop, full-height pantry walls, integrated panel-ready appliances, hidden butler's pantry where designed.

Stone & tile

Soapstone, marble, quartzite, or porcelain islands and counters; backsplash slabs or tile work; coordinated stone fabricator.

Hand-built steel windows

Appliance integration

Sub-Zero columns, Wolf range and ovens, Miele dishwashers, Gaggenau or Wolf steam ovens, La Cornue, coordinated with the dealer's certified installer.

Lighting design

Architectural lighting plan: under-cabinet, in-cabinet, recessed, decorative pendants over island, dimming and scene control via Lutron or equivalent.

Final finish & commission

Stone and tile sealing, cabinetry tune-up, appliance commissioning, owner walk-through, and a punch-list close pass.

03 · Why ESRL

What you get with ESRL
on a luxury kitchen.

Principal-led, structural-capable

Principal accountability. Asher is on the project. Decisions, selections, change orders, and the daily reality of construction are owned by the principal, not a project manager who reports up. For a project where the family's daily experience of the home depends on the result, that ownership matters.

Structural-capable. Most luxury kitchen remodels involve at least one structural change. ESRL has in-house structural engineering and routinely designs and installs steel beams, moment frames, and reinforcement within wood-framed homes. The structural question is answered inside the company.

Hand-built steel windows. ESRL builds custom blackened-steel window frames on-site, finished on-site, the architectural detail that distinguishes a custom kitchen from a high-end stock kitchen. The window detail is part of the same conversation as the framing, the cladding, and the cabinet line.

Custom cabinet shop network. ESRL has long-term relationships with three top-tier custom cabinet shops in Southern California. We coordinate cabinet engineering with the architectural design, the appliance package, and the field measurements, so the cabinets land on the day they are supposed to.

Honest budget conversation. Line-item budgets at pre-construction. The owner sees what each scope element drives, and adjusts intentionally. No hidden costs, no inflated allowances, no surprise change orders.

Luxury kitchen remodel FAQ.

How long does a luxury kitchen remodel in LA take?

From signed contract to final inspection, a luxury kitchen remodel in LA County typically takes 4 to 9 months. Roughly 6 to 10 weeks of design, selections, and cabinet engineering up front, then 10 to 24 weeks of active construction depending on the scope. Cabinet lead times from a top-tier custom shop, 16 to 24 weeks, often define the critical path more than the actual on-site work.

What does a luxury kitchen remodel cost in Los Angeles?

Luxury kitchen remodels at the level ESRL builds typically involve fully custom cabinetry, premium stone, integrated high-end appliance packages, and architectural-grade detailing. The cost is project-specific to scope, footprint, structural changes, and selections. We provide candid line-item budgets at the pre-construction stage so the owner can see exactly what each scope element drives, and adjust intentionally.

Can you do structural changes during a kitchen remodel, like removing walls or adding steel headers?

Yes. Most luxury kitchen remodels at our level include at least one structural change, removing a wall to open kitchen to great room, raising the ceiling into the existing roof structure, or adding glass walls and doors that require steel headers to span. ESRL has in-house structural engineering and routinely designs and installs cold-formed steel beams, moment frames, and reinforcement within otherwise wood-framed homes.

Do you install Sub-Zero, Wolf, Miele, La Cornue, and other premium appliances?

Yes. ESRL routinely integrates Sub-Zero column refrigeration, Wolf range and ventilation, Miele dishwashers and ovens, La Cornue ranges, Gaggenau cooktops, Wolf steam ovens, and other premium and ultra-premium appliance packages. We coordinate with the appliance dealer's certified installer for final commissioning and warranty.

Can a kitchen remodel be done while we live in the home?

It depends on the scope. Pure cosmetic kitchen refreshes can sometimes be staged with the family in residence. True luxury kitchen remodels involving structural changes, full demolition, MEP rework, and 4 to 6 months of active construction are nearly always done with the family relocated, both for safety and for sanity. We typically include relocation logistics in the pre-construction conversation.
